I'm trying to switch to Fedora on my MacBook Pro mid-2009, and I spent my entire morning trying to get wifi to work properly. I installed the system to an external HDD, and will reinstall to the internal drive later on, so this is mostly a note to self, but i'll put it publicly if it can be of any help to someone else.
lspci -nn -d 14e4: to find the wifi chip model.
- Check if the wifi chip is supported by b43, mine is.
- Set up b43 (french)
- Download firmware files from here
- Copy them all to
- Regenerate the initramfs :
- Back up the current one :
sudo cp /boot/initramfs-`uname -r`.img /boot/initrd-`uname -r`.img.bak
(source, but uses initramfs instead of initrd)
- Generate a new one :
sudo mkinitrd with nothing shows what command to run.
- Reboot and check
dmesg | grep b43. If no errors, open GNOME Settings and check if Wi-Fi is present.
